Assessments without the long wait.
We started offering Psycho Education and ADHD Assessments in Victoria after finding out that the average wait time was 12-18 months.
In our opinion, that is too long for individuals and families to wait for vital input for educational, career, and life planning.
Since we’ve started offering this service in 2022 we have consistently been able to offer assessments to Vancouver Island with nearly no delay. Typical wait times are no more than 1-2 months.
What to expect?
0. Background Questionnaire - Prior to Meeting
Prior to the assessment, you will complete a background questionnaire about you or your child's history.
This questionnaire helps determine the focal points for the parent intake interview.
This preparation is necessary before the first appointment to ensure the assessment is tailored to the specific needs and areas of concern.
1. Parent Intake Interview -
Virtual Intake interview with one or both parents reviewing the background history questionnaire and presenting concerns.
2. First Day of Testing - Tuesday
Testing begins, covering areas including academic achievement, specific and general intelligence, attention, and emotional functioning.
3 . Second Day of Testing - Wednesday
Testing continues, focusing on the areas started the previous day until the end of the session.
4. Questionnaires - Online
After the in person assessment, questionnaires will be sent about your or your child’s executive and/or emotional functioning. Forms can be completed when you have time, but are needed within two weeks after in person testing is complete.
5. Report Review and Debrief - 4 to 6 Weeks After Testing
After the assessment is completed, a comprehensive report detailing the findings will be ready for review within 4-6 weeks. At this stage, a debrief interview will be scheduled, which can be conducted online to provide more flexibility regarding timing. During this debrief the results and recommendations from the assessment will be reviewed in detail.
Key Aspects of the Debrief:
Findings: You will learn about you or your child's particular strengths and areas of challenge. This includes academic capabilities, general abilities for tasks such as spatial awareness and processing speed, and emotional functioning.
Identification of Disorders: If the assessment identifies any learning or mental health disorders, these will be clearly stated in the report. Recommendations will also be provided to support your or your child's unique needs.
Report Language: The information will be presented in respectful language with the aim of improving outcomes for yourself or your child. The report is constructed thoughtfully to ensure clarity and utility for parents and educators.
Sharing with Schools: If you choose to share the report with your or your child’s school and any learning or emotional challenges are identified, it may facilitate additional support, potentially leading to improved academic performance and emotional well-being.
This follow-up is crucial as it allows for a thorough understanding of the assessment's outcomes and facilitates planning for any necessary interventions or supports.
Who’s involved in the assessment?
The psychoeducational assessment includes the support of two individuals trained in test administration, scoring, report preparation, and intake and debrief interviews.
Your assessment will be administered by an experienced psychometrist with a Masters in Educational Psychology (Samantha Lee). Sam will conduct the intake and debrief interviews as well as administer assessment measures to your child.
Dr. Michelle Church reviews all documentation provided by you and discusses findings and observations made by Sam during the course of the assessment.
